The Chennai Corporation has started laying roads in Madipakkam, a suburban locality in South Chennai. Hu eagerly awaiting a thrust from the civic authorities to regain its momentum. Madipakkam has maintained its position in the list of the top preferred localities for buying homes, as per the data available with. Ironically, during the same time, property prices remained stable. Very recently, the locality has been in news for issues related to water logging, sewerage and roads with pot holes. The locality has proximity to OMR, Velachery, Pallikarnai and other areas of South Chennai, which is why people want to live here but undeveloped and submerged roads, traffic jams due to construction of the metro, is forcing them to look for other areas, says AV Murli, MD, Green Earth Properties, a broker firm active in the city. Madipakkam is a low-lying area that came under the Chennai Corporation limits in 2011. Till the 90s the locality had independent houses. Developers realized the areas potential and started constructing apartment projects here. It was expected that this movement will be ably supported by the Corporation, which did not happen. Now, many developers have postponed the delivery of their projects, as there are just a few takers, says Murli. Learning from Tambaram Tambaram, also in South Chennai, faced a similar problem in the past but several initiatives taken by the Tambaram Municipal Corporation helped in transforming the locality. The Commissioner of Tambaram Municipality, N Ravichandran says, In order to clean the area, an Underground Sewage (UGS) program was implemented throughout the locality.
