Ahmedabad: About nine months since the Union cabinet committee approved the Dholera International Airport Project, the runway construction work has finally begun, confirmed sources in the state government. The new greenfield airport, situated 103km from Ahmedabad, will be the second international airport for the city. A joint venture company named Dholera International Airport Company Limited (DIACL), where Airports Authority of India (AAI), GoG and National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) hold equity in the ratio of 51:33:16 respectively, has been formed to execute the project.
The total project cost is estimated to be Rs 1,305 crore and it will be completed within four years. The airport is at an aerial distance of 80km from Ahmedabad.
A senior official from Dholera Special Investment Regional Development Authority (DSIRDA) confirmed that it is likely that the project may be ready for commercial operations by fiscal year 2025-26.
