Red sandalwood is the most valuable timber: also known as red gold. Red sandalwood is the scientific name of the tree botanical Pterocarpus santalinus. It does not grow elsewhere except in Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh also grows in only four districts. These red sandalwoods grow only in the Nallamala forests that span the Chittoor, Kadapa, Kurnool and Prakasam districts. The tree-lined instrument is used as a musical instrument in Japan. It is their custom to have that musical instrument in every home. Its wood hull is used as a color agent. The state government of Andhra Pradesh has banned the export of timber. However, it is worth smuggling to some because it is so worth it. Since it is highly valued overseas, smugglers have smuggled the timber to other countries and are earning millions of crores. Thus millions of crores of red sandalwood are moving abroad.
